Are wound dressings and wound care items covered under nursing consumables?

Support at Home includes wound care as part of nursing care clinical supports.

The program also distinguishes between:

  • everyday supplies that are usually included in the nursing hourly price (for example, basic bandages/antiseptics), and
  • specialised, client-specific consumables that may be purchased under nursing care consumables when linked to an assessed clinical need.

For wound dressings and wound products, Local Guardians requires a wound treatment plan (from a wound care nurse, GP, or relevant specialist) that outlines the clinical need, goals, and recommended products, so the selection can be documented in the care plan and reviewed as part of regular care plan review.
