Are skin creams allowable under “nursing care consumables”?

They can be, when they are specialised nursing products for an individual and clinically linked to skin integrity needs. The service list footnote gives the example of “prescribed skin emollients for management of skin integrity” as the type of specialised product that can be reimbursed under nursing consumables. (Support at Home Program Manual – Page 132)

For transitioned HCP clients, Local Guardians requires clients to discuss skin integrity needs with the clinical team so a brief clinical assessment and clinical note can be documented in the care plan, linking any skin creams to an assessed goal and need, and reviewed at least annually.
