Frontotemporal dementia

Frontotemporal lobe dementia is a type of dementia that affects specific parts of the brain, specifically the frontal lobes or the temporal lobes. The presentation of the disease depends on which part is affected first. 

If the frontal lobes are affected, it is called behavioural variant frontotemporal lobe dementia. People with this variant may experience changes in their personality, such as becoming flat or cruel, or developing obsessive behaviours. 

On the other hand, if the temporal lobes are affected, it is called temporal lobe dementia. This variant is characterised by language-based disorders known as aphasias. People with temporal lobe dementia may have difficulty finding words, understanding their meanings, or using correct grammar. 

These are the two most common variants of frontotemporal lobe dementia.
