Jane holds a Certificate III in Aged Care, a Certificate IV in Frontline Management, and has trained in various aspects of support for our elderly. She has spent the past 26 years working in various capacities, all with the aim of helping clients navigate their way through complicated systems to achieve the best outcome in terms of value and quality.

Jane is a member of Compassionate Communities Northern NSW, a voluntary organisation working to reduce social isolation and to improve end of life experiences in our community. She has also founded and administers the Ballina Chapter of the Threshold Choir, which sings gentle songs in small groups at the bedside of people who are at the end of their life.

In her spare time Jane dotes on her grandchildren and enjoys walking the seaside paths of the beautiful Byron/Ballina region.

Home Care in Ballina & Byron Bay

Ballina is a town located in the Northern Rivers region of NSW, just south of Byron Bay, and east of Lismore. Ballina is known for its beautiful beaches, fishing, and is home to the Big Prawn. The Ballina Shire has a population of approximately 41,790 and includes the towns of Alstonville, Lennox Head, Wollongbar, Tintenbar, Wardell, Newrybar (shared with Byron Bay), and many more. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people make up 3.1% of the population, which is higher than the national and state averages of 2.5%.

To ensure everyone has access to enjoy the beaches, Ballina has two beach wheelchairs available for hire.

Some of the recent projects implemented by Ballina Council to support the needs of aged and disability are:

  • constructed the first fully Accredited Changing Place toilet facility in NSW
  • altered the design templates for the construction of footpaths to improve accessibility
  • redevelopment of the public swimming pools in Ballina and Alstonville incorporating accessible pool entry ramps and change facilities


Byron Bay is a Far North Coast town just an hour south of the Queensland border. It is the easternmost point of Australia. Byron is well known as a popular tourist destination bordered by stunning beaches on one side, mountains and rainforest on the other. The Byron Bay Shire has a population of approximately 31,556 encompasses the towns of Bangalow, Newrybar (shared with Ballina), Mullumbimby, Brunswick Heads, Ocean Shores, Federal, Booyong (shared with Lismore), and many other small towns.


Lismore is a city in the Northern Rivers region of the Far North Coast of NSW. It is located on the banks of the Wilsons River and Leycester Creek. It is known to flood in heavy rains and suffered badly in 2017 in the aftermath of Cyclone Debbie. It is known for its farming, arts & culture. Lismore is the commercial centre of the Northern Rivers region. The Lismore Shire has a population of approximately 43,135 and includes the towns of Nimbin, Clunes, Eltham, Bexhill, Booyong (shared with Byron Bay), and many other regional towns.

One of the big issues in the regions of Ballina, Byron Bay & Lismore is that of social isolation and there are several groups currently working on social groups for people in need.

Aged Care Assessment – Byron Bay, Ballina & Lismore Regions

The Northern NSW ACAT is located at 58 Fox Street, BALLINA, 02 6620 6222. The service covers the local government areas of: Ballina, Kyogle, Lismore, and the Richmond Valley.

ACAT undertakes a comprehensive assessment of care needs for older people needing access to residential and/or home (community) care, and helps the elderly and their carers to determine what kind of support will best meet their needs.

Target group are older people, typically over the age of 65 or for indigenous Australians, people over the age of 50, or people who have an age related condition.

Often comprises of a doctor, nurse, social worker and occupational therapist, the team will recommend services deemed to be the most appropriate to meet care needs through a series of questions, and with the client’s consent will liaise with families/carers and health care providers.

Referral Procedure, by care recipient themselves or others:

  • The care recipient, carer, family must be aware of and consent to the referral
  • All referrals are to be made via MyAgedCare: 1800 200 422

Getting started is easy, once you’ve been approved for a home care package contact us and we’ll send you our simple, easy to read 4 page agreement. Once this has been completed and returned we’ll process it (generally within 1 business day) and be in touch regarding next steps.

Yes! Switching is easy.

  • you’ll need to agree on an exit date with your existing provider, this might depend on your home care agreement, ie two weeks
  • provide the date to Local Guardians and the contact details of your existing provider to ensure home care package unspent funds can be transferred across
